Angola is 12th in World Basketball Ranking
Angola edged up this year by two slots in the ranking of the International Basketball Federation (FIBA), to occupy the 12th position with 206 points, local sports sources revealed to PANA Monday.

According to FIBA, Angola, holder of nine championships, is ahead of Russia, New Zealand, Brazil, Canada, Croatia, France and Turkey in a galaxy of 74 countries.

Angola is the best-placed African country in the world ranking, while Egypt and Senegal occupy the 35th and 37th slots with 25 and 20.4 points respectively.

The FIBA ranking is dominated by Argentina (876 points), which is ahead of the US, second with 832.2 points.

Angola is preparing to defend its continental title during the Basketball CAN (Afrobasket) scheduled to be held from 4 to 14 August, 2009, in Libya.
