Kenya, Botswana, Import South Africa's Maize
South African maize exports dropped slightly in the week to 8 January, according to the South African Grain Information Service (SAGIS) – but the biggest maize exporter in Africa still sold most of that week's yellow maize to Botswana. A total of 1 295 tonnes was bought by South Africa's neighbour.

A whopping 12.05 million tonnes of maize was harvested in the 2008/2009 growing season and it is expected that the 2010/2011 season will also be a bumper one. Kenya has bought the bulk of South Africa's export-market maize, having bought 734 068 tonnes of grain from South Africa since May 2009.
