Algeria: JSK Snatch Champions League Win
JS Kabylie beat Gambian Armed Forces to open the CAF Champions League, as JSM Bejaia ascended the tables in the Algerian league.

A three-way race for D1 leadership got under way this week-end as Algerian clubs balanced national league and CAF Champions League action.

JS Kabylie made their first appearance in the 2010 CAF Champions League on February 13th in Banjul, defeating Gambia Armed Forces 2-1 in a preliminary round match.

JSK scored both of their goals in the second half, thanks to strikers Fares Hamiti in the 47th and Mohamed Amine Aoudia in the 56th. GAF only managed to net the ball after JSK defender Said Belkalem scored an own goal.

"It was a good match and we're happy with the result," JSK trainer Alain Geiger told reporters after the match. "We were able to control the game from the first half and had good chances against a very good side, but we deserved to win. You can't recognise the strength of the Armed Forces, because we were the better side on this day."

Also on Saturday, CR Belouizdad met Libyan team El Tersana and drew 1-all. Youssef Saibi scored in the 41st minute for CRB, but El Tersana would snatch the victory away in the 95th minute, as Ahmed Kraoua equalised on a penalty.

Elsewhere in the competition, on Sunday, ES Setif fell to the Diables Noirs of Congo 3-2. Though midfielder Lamour Djediat scored in the 16th, followed by Lazhar Hadj Aissa in the 81st, the team was no match for the dominant Congolese side.

Back in Algeria, the 22nd day of league play was marked by cancellations due to the CAF Champions League schedule. The ESS-USM Algiers match was postponed indefinitely, as was the CR Belouizdad-MC El Eulma competition. Adverse weather conditions also caused the cancellation of the MSP Batna-AS Khroub match.

JSM strikers Brahim Zafour scored in the 72nd minute, while Yannick N'Jong put the ball in the net in the 82nd to hand JSM Bejaia the victory. The team picked up three points, to put the side in contention for first place alongside MC Algiers and JS Kabylie.

On another pitch, CABBA dominated CA Batna 2-1. CA Batna set itself back with an own goal in the 15th minute, and CABBA added insult to injury with a goal from Samir Bentayeb in the 60th minute. CA Batna scored in the 76th minute.

In other matches on Sunday, ASO Chlef beat WA Tlemcen 1-0 thanks to a goal from midfielder Abdelkader Mohamed Rabeh. The match between USM El Harrach and NA Hussein Dey ended in a goalless draw, as did the USM Annaba-MC Oran game.

At the bottom of the table, USM Blida, MSP Batna and NA Hussein Dey are currently in the drop zone and facing relegation.
