Uganda Film Festival 24 -28 Aug, 2015

The third edition of the Uganda Film Festival 2015(UFF) organized by Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) kicks off today,24th,2015 in Kampala with over 500 guests expected to grace the event.  UFF aims to showcase what the local film industry is doing, generate interest in the Ugandan film industry both locally and internationally and to bring all the industry players together in a more focused and structured environment.UFF2015, whose theme is “Improving quality of Ugandan Films”, will run from Monday August 24-28, 2015.


The Minister for Information and National Guidance, Hon. Jim Muhwezi, who will be the Guest of Honour, will reiterate the Government of Uganda’s commitment to developing Uganda’s Film Industry. Professor Martin Mhando a re-known director and producer,professor from Murdoch University and also the CEO/Festival Director,Zanzibar International Film Festival will be the key speaker at the Film Financing Forum.  At least 400 guests, including upcoming and established Ugandan film stars, film producers and directors will attend the Opening Ceremony at the Kampala Serena Hotel this evening.


Today, being a National Documentary Day, there will be free screenings of all the 132 films that were submitted to UCC at the National Theatre(Uganda National Cultural Centre). The National Theatre will also be the venue for the three-day Film Exhibition (August 25-27, 2015)from 9.00am to 5.00pm. This  will attract Government bodies, Film makers, make-up artistes, film distributors, Television owners, the media, Film equipment operators, Cinema owners , Financial institutions, among other stakeholders. A three-day opportunity to watch the best films at Kampala’s high-tech, state-of-the-art cinemas!


Free Screenings will also be at the following cinemas from 10:00am-4:00pm (free film shows four four days)
• Cinemax Cinema (Acacia Mall, Kamwokya),Cinemagic Cinema (NaalyaMetroplex),Ham Cinema (Ham Towers, Makerere) and New Max (Victoria Hall,Entebbe)


There will also be corporate screenings, whose attendance will be by invitation. Zuku TV (Acacia Mall), DSTV (Ham Towers) are some of the corporate sponsors, which include StarTimes, NBS and Daily Nation Media Group.






There will be livestreaming and media coverage to keep everyone abreast of the proceedings. In addition, there will be open-outdoor screenings and entertainment at Nakivubo Stadium, Cooper Complex, Nateete, Katwe, and Jambula (Bwaise).  UCC has also organised a number of training workshops;Producers Master Class,Beginners Foundation class and the Additional Dialogue Recording workshop. Other activities will include Film Financing Forum on Wednesday 26th August,2015,Nominees Forum and an Awards Gala on Friday 28th to conclude the signature event.
