Kenya's " You Tube Man" Julius Yego Wins Javelin World Title At Beijing World Championships

Kenya's Julius Yego “Mr You Tube” who taught himself how to throw the javelin by watching videos on YouTube after he was rejected as a runner by coaches, continued Kenya's dominance of the world athletics championships by winning his country's fifth gold medal with a monster 92.72-metres throw in a dramatic men's javelin final.
It is the first time that Kenya, a nation noted for its middle, and long distance running prowess, has won a world title in a field event. Yego's victory comes a day after another Kenyan Nicholas Bett won the 400m hurdles title, the shortest distance over which any Kenyan has become a world champion.

Yego won the men's javelin title with the third longest throw of all time at the 2015 world championships in Beijing.

Yego's monster third-round effort of 92.72 metres is the longest since Jan Zelezny threw 92.80 in 2001. The Czech also holds the world record of 98.48m, set in 1996.

The Javelin categoryhas long been an event mostly won by Europeans.

Egypt's Ihab El Sayed took the silver medal with his 88.99m second-round effort. Finland's Tero Pitkamaki maintained European pride by taking bronze with his 87.64m best effort.

Yego, 26, is diminutive by the standards of international javelin throwers, standing only 5ft 8in/1.75m tall.
