Egypt Beats Ghana 1- 0 To Qualify For AFCON 2017 Quarters

Mohamed Salah struck the only goal of the game in the first half as Egypt beat Ghana 1-0 at Port Gentil to top Group D. Salah's goal, a thunderous left footed freekick that gave Ghana's goalkeeper no chance, sparked wild celebrations from the small crew of Egyptian fans in the stadium. Egypt African Cup of Nations' most successful team therefore made it back to the quarterfinals on Wednesday, beating one of the title contenders along the way. A 1-0 win over Ghana ensured its long-awaited return to the championship will continue for at least a little while longer.
Despite going down, Ghana still looked dangerous on many occasions. Ghana suffered a setback towards the first half when Captain Asamoah Gyan left the pitch with an injury but his replacement, Jordan Ayew did a good job as well and was only twice denied by the brilliant ageing El Hadary. Egypt needed to win to make sure it progressed, while Ghana had already qualified. The victory also gave Egypt renewed confidence that it can compete with the best again at the Cup of Nations.

Egyptian soccer has been held back by the major political upheavals back home.
Ghana have had an average of 48.5% ball possession from two games played, while Egypt have enjoyed an average of 50.5% ball possession from the two games played thus far in group D.
The Black Stars have played 16 shots, as against 19 shot by the Pharaohs in the two games played.
Ghana, however have more shots on target-seven (7), against Egypt’s six.
