Nelson Mandela International Day, a day dedicated to commemorate the lifetime of service the Nobel Prize winner and anti-Apartheid icon gave to South Africa. The day was launched by the United Nations General Assembly on July 18, 2009, in honor of Mandela's birthday.
Mandela reconciled South Africa after the end of apartheid died in December of 2013 at the age of 95. He would have been 99 this year.
