Keekorok Lodge

Keekorok Lodge, was the first game lodge to be built in the Mara and is erected in the direct path of the magnificent annual wildebeest migration. At the pinnacle of migration, Keekorok lodge is surrounded by thousands of wild game, providing a spectacular and memorable view for the guests without having to travel far.

Standing amid the vast sweeping plains of Kenya’s southern Savannah the world famous Masai Mara, the Lodge can easily be accessed by light aircraft, landing at the Keekorok Airstrip or by road from Nairobi approximately 280km away.
 

Keekorok Game Lodge Overview

The Keekorok Lodge is located in the Masai Mara National Reserve. The lodge is located at an altitude of 1,617 meters above sea level, and is surrounded by grasslands. The lodge was opened in 1962 at a site with natural springs. The annual migration of zebras and wildebeests takes place from July to October in the Masai Mara reserve, which provides a year-round home to a number of species of mammals and reptiles, and hundreds of species of birds.

Keekorok Game Lodge Rooms

This large lodge has 89 guest rooms, furnished as doubles. There are also superior rooms, and four suites. The rooms overlook the reserve or the lodge’s gardens. The accommodations are in low stone bungalows, and each room has a private balcony and an en-suite bathroom. The rooms have tile floors, white walls, and beds draped in colorful textiles and mosquito netting. The rooms were last renovated in 2006.

Keekorok Game Lodge Restaurants & Bars

The room rates include full board, including morning tea or coffee, afternoon tea, and breakfast, lunch and dinner. The restaurant has views of the lawns and a rock garden, and the menu incorporates African, Asian and European delicacies. Guests can also eat on the outdoor verandah, the Elephant Deck, or privately in the wilderness. Special children’s meals are available. Lunch boxes can be provided upon request for day-long excursions. The Discovery Bar serves whiskey, cigars, and Kenyan coffee, and is decorated with memorabilia of the camp’s history. There is also a Hippo Pool Bar overlooking a watering hole where hippos, lions and elephants congregate. This bar is connected to the lodge by a wooden walkway. There is also a bar at the swimming pool.

Keekorok Game Lodge Facilities

The lodge hosts three daily game drives with qualified guides, in customized four-wheel drive vehicles. Guided bird walks are offered for an additional fee. Guests can also take a balloon safari (children must be aged 6 or older). There is a swimming pool with a sun deck. In the evening, the lodge shows wildlife films or hosts Masai dancers. There are conference facilities for up to 100 participants. The lodge has 24-hour electricity, telephone, high-speed wireless internet access, and VHF and HF radio. Guests can exchange small amounts of currency at the lodge, and the reception desk has a safe for valuables. A nanny service is available. There is a dispensary on-site with a clinical officer; a doctor can be called if required. The camp has 24-hour security.
