The Competition Authority of Kenya recognizes the critical role that the Media plays in facilitating execution of its mandate of regulating markets in the Kenyan economy and ensuring consumers are protected from misleading market conduct.
In furtherance of the Authority’s efforts to furnish journalists with relevant, topical and timely information regarding its activities and interventions, the Authority has organized a Webinar at 9am on Thursday June 25th 2020 to discuss three (3) key topics.
1. Fines & Penalties: A presentation on the Authority’s investigation process and determination of appropriate remedies for Consumer Protection violations. Case Studies: Enforcement action on Faulu Kenya & Harambee Sacco.
2. Abuse of Buyer Power: A critical look into the salient Abuse of Buyer Power provisions in the Competition Act and the Authority’s enforcement initiatives across various sectors of the economy.
3. Merger Assessment Criteria: A presentation on the Authority’s key considerations when analyzing a merger and acquisition application. These are Competition & Public Interest concerns. Case Studies: Coca-Cola Sabco/Almasi Beverages and Telkom Kenya/Airtel Kenya merger cases.
The Webinar will be hosted on the Microsoft Teams platform and is planned to last 1 hour, including a Question & Answer session where the presenters will field questions. A recording of the Webinar will be provided to the attendees.
