Malawi Government: The Allegation That President Chakwera's Has Reneged Promise To Create 1 Million Jobs Because Government Only Employs 200,000 People is Fake News .

 Press Release

It has come to the attention of State House that some international media are reporting that during the most recent Press Briefing at Kamuzu Palace, His Excellency the President, Dr. Lazarus Chakwera, said that he and Vice President Chilima will renege on their promise to create 1 million jobs because Government only employs 200,000 people. The general public is hereby informed that this allegation is categorically false and a clear misrepresentation of President Chakwera's remarks.

What the President said, which is a matter of public record and of plain meaning to all fair-minded persons, is that his Administration's efforts to create jobs are not confined to the public sector, but also involve implementing deliberate policies and incentives to stimulate job creation in the private sector. As such, the President was clearly explaining how and where his Administration will create the 1 million jobs, not backtracking on the promise to do so. Going forward, the media is advised to contact the State House Department of Communications for clarification on matters of fact related to things said or done by the President, even if only to avoid being conduits of fake news.
