We will be leaving the Machame Campin the Rainforest Zone to head to our next campsite, Shira 2 Camp (12,621 ft or 3,847m). We now enter the next ecological zone, the Moorland/Heather Zone. The last of the trees get scarcer and small plants become more common, as the trail continues upward on a rocky ridge of volcanic petrified lava, on top of which lunch awaits you.

After lunch, there wil be a one hour hike, with ever decreasing vegetation along the way to Shira Hut (3850m), your camp for the night, surrounded by rocks and boulders, is within sight.
