Secretary Blinken’s Call with Egyptian Foreign Minister Abdelatty

 

Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken spoke today with Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty. The Secretary and Foreign Minister discussed the latest developments in ongoing efforts to reach a ceasefire in Gaza that would secure the return of hostages and allow for a surge of humanitarian assistance. The Secretary emphasized the importance of a ceasefire agreement to furthering broader regional stability, including by unlocking the possibility of a diplomatic solution to the conflict across the Blue Line.
 
The Secretary and Foreign Minister also discussed ongoing diplomatic efforts to end the devastating war in Sudan.  The Secretary welcomed Egypt’s active participation in the planned ceasefire talks and agreed on the importance of enabling humanitarian access to all those in need in Sudan.
