The Lemosho route is considered the most scenic trail on Kilimanjaro, granting panoramic vistas on various sides of the mountain. As one of the newer routes. Lemosho route 8 days 7 nights from Arusha/Moshi is the best choice for your Kilimanjaro hiking. It starts on the Western side of the mountain at the Londorossi Gate which is a further drive from town, and was introduced as an alternative to the Shira route. From there, the first two days are spent trekking through the rain forest to Shira Ridge. The Lemosho route crosses the entire Shira Plateau from west to east in a pleasant, relatively flat hike. Crowds are low until the route joins the Machame route near Lava Tower. Then the route traverses underneath Kilimanjaro’s Southern Ice Field on a path known as the Southern Circuit before summiting from Barafu. Descent is made via the Mweka route.
The Lemosho Route is also considered one of the easier routes on Kilimanjaro, as its longer itinerary allows for better acclimatization. The route has an ideal balance of low crowds, beautiful scenery and thus a high summit success rate.
The 8 day Lemosho climb has one of the highest success rates. Instead of trying to squeeze the climb into 7 days, the extra day allows for a shorter pre-summit day, meaning that you arrive at base camp by lunch time, fuel up with food, and tuck up in your tent to rest for what will be a tough summit ascent starting at midnight.
There are no parts on the route that require any technical climbing skills. Thousands of climbers safely travel this route each year, let alone the Kilimanjaro porters carrying heavy loads.
The total Lemosho Route distance is approximately 70 kilometers from gate to gate.
Crowds are low until the route joins the Machame route near Lava Tower. Then the route travers underneath Kilimanjaro's Southern ice field on a path known as the Southern Circuit before summiting from Barafu, descent is made via the Mweka route.
