COMMUNIQUÉ No. 2026-001 FROM THE TRANSITIONAL GOVERNMENT
The Transitional Government hereby informs national and international public opinion that, on the morning of Saturday, April 25, 2026, armed terrorist groups carried out complex and coordinated attacks targeting several cities across the country—specifically the garrison towns of Kati, Sévaré, Gao, Kidal, and Bamako. These terrorist acts unfortunately resulted in 16 injuries—involving both civilians and military personnel, who are currently receiving care at medical facilities—as well as limited material damage.
Thanks to the promptness, professionalism, and determination of the Malian Armed and Security Forces, these offensives were brought under control; several terrorists were neutralized, and the nefarious designs of the armed terrorist groups were thwarted.
At this moment, the situation is completely under control in all the affected localities.
His Excellency General of the Army Assimi GOÏTA—President of the Transition, Head of State, and Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces—together with the Transitional Government and the entire Malian people, commends the promptness of the Armed and Security Forces' response, as well as their exemplary patriotism and unwavering determination to defend the Nation and protect its population.
The Transitional Government calls upon the Malian people to exercise vigilance and maintain composure in the face of these desperate attempts by armed terrorist groups and their sponsors. It urges them to report any suspicious activity and to rely exclusively on official Government channels for accurate information.
The Transitional Government condemns these cowardly terrorist acts in the strongest possible terms and assures the population that the ultimate sacrifice made by the worthy sons of the Nation shall not be in vain. All measures are currently being implemented to track down and bring to justice the perpetrators, accomplices, and masterminds behind these heinous acts.
The Government reaffirms its confidence in the Malian Armed and Security Forces, which remain fully committed to their mission of defending territorial integrity and restoring peace, security, and tranquility throughout the national territory.
